How To Install a Drip Irrigation Direct-Loc Coupling

600 SERIES DIRECT-LOC COUPLING: DL-C600

Known as Easy Loc, Perma Loc or Spin-Loc, the 600 series Direct-Loc Coupling from Irrigation Direct is used with drip irrigation to connect two ends of both half inch 700 & 710 series solid drip tubing or 700 series Soaker Hose Dripline.

Unlike compression fittings, Direct-Loc fittings are removable and are useful if you need to:

  • Reconfigure your drip irrigation system
  • Reuse your drip irrigation fittings
  • Remove and store drip tubing for the winter.

Installing a Direct-Loc coupling is quick and easy.

To begin, simply cut your drip tubing with a pair of clippers or scissors. Make a straight cut across the pipe to ensure a tight fit. Turn the Loc ring towards the base of the fitting, exposing the barb. Place your drip tubing over the barb and press inward. Then reverse the Loc ring and tighten, locking the tubing into place. Glue or Teflon tape is not required.

When installing in cold weather, it helps to dip the tubing in warm water for a few minutes to soften the ends.

For a less expensive alternative, consider our 1/2 compression couplings. They come in three different sizes: 620 Raindrip series with green rings700 series with black rings and 710 series with blue rings.

To adjust or stop the flow of water through inch solid poly tubing or inch soaker hose dripline, use our Direct-Loc Flow Control Valve.

The C600 Direct-Loc coupling is just one in a full line of half inch Direct-Loc fittings available from Irrigation Direct.

Tips and Tricks

Fix Big Holes With a Coupler

If a goof plug won't do the trick
If you have a hole in a mainline poly pipe that is bigger than a goof plug, a compression coupling is the fitting to use. Make a clean cut and insert the two tubes into each end of the coupler. No glue required.

Cold Weather Trick for Drip Tubing Installation

Dip the ends in warm water
In cold weather, it helps to dip 1/4" or 1/2" poly drip tubing in warm water for a few minutes. Warm water will soften the ends of the drip tubing before installation.

SPRINKLER SYSTEM INFORMATION

Sprinkler irrigation systems are commonly used in lawn irrigation systems and other planted areas where a spray or mist is desirable. For plants that require uniform coverage of water (grass, ground cover, seeds) a sprinkler irrigation system is appropriate.

If you are installing lawn sprinkler irrigation systems, Irrigation Direct carries a variety of supplies and parts like an adjustable nozzles for Rain Bird sprinkler heads. Our shrub adapters are perfect for garden sprinklers and shrub zones.

Combine pop-ups and rotors with electronic sprinkler controllers (timers), and inline valves to automate your landscape sprinkler irrigation system. Browse our Sprinkler System Supplies and Parts to find sprinkler nozzles, bubblers, swing assemblies, cut-off risers, Marlex 90s, and more.

DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM INFORMATIONz

Drip irrigation is a watering method which delivers water to plants slowly and right where they need it at the roots. Where typical pop-up sprinklers spray water into the air and onto plants, drip irrigation systems combine flexible poly drip tubing and drip emitters or "drippers" to both conserve water and save money.

Drip irrigation systems are not affected by wind and will greatly reduce evaporation and runoff common with traditional irrigation systems. Drip irrigation is the perfect solution for raised vegetable garden beds, hanging baskets, and potted plants.
