Impact Sprinklers
Since 1932, the Brass Impact Sprinkler has been the work horse for lawn and field irrigation around the world. Made of either metal or plastic, impact sprinklers can be set to rotate to a particular distance and radius. This flexibility allows for better water application and coverage than previous irrigation methods.
Designed with a single watering nozzle, later models of impact sprinkler heads featured a second nozzle head. This dual nozzle design allowed the sprinkler to water the area close to the sprinkler with the secondary nozzle, whereas the primary nozzle waters farther distances. Although largely replaced by gear-driven "rotor heads" by the 1990's, impact sprinklers still offer many advantages, including uniformity of coverage, sand and grit resistance, and operation at lower water pressures.
