Product Description

Contains everything you will need to go from hose bibb (faucet) to your plants. The drip irrigation and micro spray kits for landscapes contains micro sprayers, stakes, and drippers for individual plants. The sprays come in quarter, half, & full circle patterns. The quarter & half-circles are designed to be installed along the edges of planted areas. The full circle sprays should be installed roughly in the center of the planted areas, up to 500 linear feet. The linear feet that can be watered with each kit is an estimate based on the maximum radius of each sprayer at 20 psi. The number of individual plants that can be watered is based on the number of drippers contained in each kit. This kit waters up to 150 plants.

Maximum Flow Rate Required when kit is fully installed (all drippers & sprayers): 100 gph - 250 gph (sprayers are adjustable so flow rate will vary).

If you want to automate your drip system, a Drip Pro Water timer (DD-DWT673) can be purchased separately.

Description

This kit contains everything you will need to go from hose bibb (faucet) to your plants. Installation: Overview

You will attach a Hose Vacuum Breaker, Y Filter, and Pressure Regulator to the faucet or garden hose. The supply line is 1/2” Solid Drip Tubing and is run along the edge of a planted area (for 1/4 & 1/2 circle sprays) and into the center (for full circle sprays and drippers). Run a single 1/2” mainline with an end cap at the end of the tubing. Weave the tubing in between individual plants that you plan to water with drippers. We’ve included wire stakes for the 1/2” tubing to keep it in place. You will install stakes with micro sprayers with full, half, or quarter-circle patterns. Also included are adjustable sprayers on 6” stakes. Note: the Jumbo kit will make two separate drip systems.

Installation: Step-by-Step

Roll the tubing out in the sun to soften. Weigh it down and let the sun heat the tubing. This will make it easier to work with.

Step one: Connecting to the Hose Bibb

1. Screw the Hose Vacuum Breaker (DD-HVB) onto the hose bibb. Note: If you have purchased an optional Drip Pro Water timer (DD-DWT673) screw it onto the hose bibb first. Then attach the HVB to the Water Timer.
2. Screw the Y-Filter (DD-YS75HFM) onto the hose vacuum breaker.  
3. Screw the Pressure Regulator (DD-HPR30) onto the Filter.
4. Screw the Direct-Loc Swivel Adapter (DL-FHS600) onto the regulator.

Step Two: From the Hose Bibb to the Plants

1. Attach 1/2” Drip Tubing (DD-DH700) to the 1/2” swivel adapter.
2. Run the tubing into the planting area near the plants to be watered.
3. If using individual drippers, weave the tubing in between the plants to be dripped.
4. For quarter or half-circle sprays, run the drip tubing along the edge of the flower bed.  
5. For full-circle sprays, run the drip tubing into the center of the planted area.  
6. Secure the drip tubing in place with 8” Wire Stakes (DD-S8).
7. Use 1/2” Direct-Loc Tees (DL-T600) to create lateral lines as needed.
8. You will be adding Direct-Loc End Caps (DL-EC600) to the ends of the 1/2” drip tubing after you flush the line in Step Three (below). Leave the caps off for now.

Step Three: Installing Stakes & Sprayers

1. When designing for sprayers, it’s good to plan for “head-to-head” coverage. That means that the water from one sprayer should reach the base of adjacent sprayers.
2. The width of your planting area will affect the spacing of the stakes as well. You don’t want to overspray an area too much while still maintaining good coverage and avoiding dry spots.
3. Sprayer Radius Guidelines:
   • At 20 psi (the pressure of the regulator in this kit) the Variable Adjust Micro Spray Quarter-Circle (DD-MJVQ) has a maximum radius of about 9.4 feet. We recommend limiting the radius to about 8 feet to insure that you have adequate flow to your entire system. 
   • At 20 psi the Variable Adjust Micro Spray Half-Circle (DD-MJVH) has a maximum radius of about 9.5 feet. We recommend limiting the radius to about 8 feet to insure that you have adequate flow to your entire system.
   • At 20 psi the Variable Adjust Micro Spray Full-Circle (DD-MJVF) has a maximum diameter of about 25.7 feet. We recommend limiting the radius to about 24 feet to insure that you have adequate flow to your entire system.
   • At 20 psi the Adjustable Stream Bubbler (full circle) (DD-SR360S) has a maximum diameter of about 3 feet. You should be fine if you stay within this distance.
   • At 20 psi the Adjustable Spectrum Sprayer (full circle) (DD-SR360S) has a maximum diameter of about 5.5 feet. We recommend limiting the radius to about 5 feet to insure that you have adequate flow to your entire system.
4. Once you determine the spacing of the 6” spike or 12” Micro Stake (DD-MJSA12), use the Deluxe Hole Punch (DD-SP250) to poke a hole in the 1/2” tubing at each stake location. 
5. Insert the barbed connector from the 1/4” tubing (attached to the micro stake tubing or the 6” spike) into the 1/2” tubing.
6. Push the stake into the soil but DO NOT attach the sprayer yet. Install every stake before moving on to the next step. 
7. Turn on the water and FLUSH THE LINE until all lines are clear of debris. 
8. Cap off all open ends of 1/2” drip tubing with the End Caps. Turn the collar on the fitting to expose the barb. Slide the tubing over the barb. Turn the collar so that it tightens down over the drip tubing and holds it in place.  
9. Screw the Variable Adjust Sprayers into the top of each micro spray stake. 
10. Turn on your system and check each sprayer for water output. Adjust individual sprayers as needed. The idea is for each area to receive equal coverage during the watering cycle.   

Step Four: Installing Drip Emitters (Drippers)

1. At each plant use the hole punch (DD-SP250) to poke a hole in the 1/2” tubing.
2. Insert the Deluxe Pressure Compensating Emitter (DD-PCP5, DD-PCP10, DD-PCP20) directly into the 1/2” tubing. The number and size of dripper used will vary depending on the water requirements of each plant.
3. If the plant is father away from the 1/2” tubing, use a 1/4” Connector (DD-C250) and a piece of 1/4” solid micro tubing (DD-DH250) to run from the tubing to the plant. Poke the connector into the hole in the 1/2” poly tubing. Cut the 1/4” tubing with scissors and push it onto the 1/4” barb. Stake it next to the plant with a micro tubing stake (DD-S2) or a wire stake (DD-S8) and attach the emitter to the end of the 1/4” tubing.
4. Turn on your system and check each emitter for water output. The idea is for each plant to receive enough water during the same time period.

• Goof Plugs (DD-GP) are used to plug holes in 1/2" drip poly tubing or cap off 1/4" micro tubing.
• The Direct-Loc Coupling (DL-C600) is used to connect 1/2" solid drip tubing or for repairs in 1/2” tubing that goof plugs can’t handle.

Maintenance Tips


WINTERIZING
If you live where it freezes, it is a good idea to drain the water from your drip lines and the components connected to the water source. Here’s how:
1. Turn off the hose bibb.
2. If you have a hose-end timer installed, let the system run through a watering cycle. This will open the timer and let any remaining water drain out of the timer and other components & into the drip tubing.
3. If you do not have a timer installed, unscrew the drip system from the hose bibb for a few minutes to let air into the line. Reattach the line after a minute or two.  
4. Note: We do not recommend blowing compressed air though a drip system.

FLUSH THE LINE ANUALLY
Since drip systems operate at low pressures, sediment can settle in the line over time.
1. Flush the line annually by unscrewing the end cap at the end of the line.
2. Check filter screen for debris and clean if necessary.
3. Turn on the hose bibb until the water runs clear from the end of the line.
4. Replace the cap.
5. Turn on the hose bibb and check the entire system for leaks.

REPAIR BREAKS & LEAKS
1. Small holes in the line can be plugged with a goof plug.
2. For larger breaks or holes in the 1/4” drip tubing, make a clean cut around the damaged area and reconnect the lines with a 1/4” barbed connector (DD-C250) purchased separately.
3. For larger breaks or holes in the 1/2” drip tubing, make a clean cut around the damaged area and reconnect the lines with a 1/2” Direct-Loc coupling (DL-C600).

Tips & Tricks

A Paper Clip Quickly Cleans a Hole Punch

Insert the wire to clear the tool

A good hole punch will actually cut a tiny circle out of the drip irrigation tubing. The plug of drip irrigation tubing can be removed from the cutting edge of the punch with a paper clip. Push it through the cutting end to clear any plastic debris.

Fix Little Holes With a Goof Plug

Doubles as a 1/4" end plug

If you make a mistake and poke a hole in the wrong place on a drip line, insert a goof plug (small barb). If the hole gets worn and leaks a little, pull the plug out and use the large barbed end. Goof plugs are also used to plug the end of 1/4" micro tubing.

Cold Weather Trick for Drip Tubing Installation

Dip the ends in warm water

In cold weather, it helps to dip 1/4" or 1/2" poly drip tubing in warm water for a few minutes. Warm water will soften the ends of the drip tubing before installation. The drip tubing will go onto the fittings easier. Give it a shot the next time you are working with solid drip poly tubing or soaker hose dripline.

FAQ

Can I combine emitters (drippers) and micro sprays on the same line?

You can combine drip emitters, adjustable drip sprayers, and drip micro sprays all on the same poly tubing (mainline) as long as your total gallon output does not exceed the flow rate available. Drip sprayers can use in excess of 30 gallons per hour so keep track of your water output when designing your drip system. For more details, check out these tutorials:
